BRANDING, PACKAGING, VISUAL & VERBAL COMMUNICATION
Bakin’ Mix is a Croatian brand offering gluten-free mixes for bread,
cookies, and cakes. It combines traditional recipes with modern consumer
eating habits. Alongside top-quality ingredients, Bakin’ Mix products
stand out for their simplicity and quick preparation.
Through thorough research and close collaboration with the
client, we developed the complete brand image project — from defining
the brand name and strategy to finalizing the visual identity, packaging
design, and integrated verbal and visual communication. The series of
certified gluten-free and vegan flour mixes was created in partnership
with various experts. Available in Croatian pharmacies, these products
enable celiac patients, individuals with allergies or intolerances, and
supporters of a healthy lifestyle to enjoy bread, pizza, and desserts.
Because you can always trust grandma…
The brand name is a blend of Croatian and English, combining the Croatian word “baka” (meaning grandmother) and the English word “baking” (shortened as “bakin’”). Since the product is a flour mix, the brand name inspired the visual identity concept, which revolves around the theme of mixing — reflecting the preparation of sweets and baked goods from “grandma’s mix.” Because the brand targets both domestic and international markets, the name is easy to use in both English and Croatian, without a strictly defined pronunciation (Croatian: bakin; English: beikin). This charming name is paired with a warm and inviting key visual: a stylized illustration of a grandmother’s head formed from the baking mix inside the package. Together, the name and visual evoke the comforting taste and quality that only grandma’s cooking can provide.

The packaging’s shape and material were predetermined and
non-negotiable, unlike other similar products, yet still offered enough
room for a unique creative solution. The design subtly hints at the
product inside through a powdery textured image of the brand’s face — a
gray-haired grandma with a bun. This packaging design emphasizes the
brand’s core value: connecting tradition with modern nutritional needs.
This connection is conveyed not only through the name but through a
cohesive and integral visual solution.
Grandma and the
product evoke the warmth, unique flavors, and aromas of a grandmother’s
kitchen. Each package’s “grandma” engages directly with consumers,
creating an intriguing interaction between product and user. Visibility
on supermarket shelves is enhanced by a bright palette of background
colors and graphic elements. This distinctive blend of modern and
traditional design earned recognition from many, including the expert
jury of the
Red Dot Design Award – Communication Design 2020.
The Bakin’ Mix product line currently includes seven different gluten-free flour mixes. These mixes cover a variety of baked goods such as bread, pizza, cocoa cake, muffins, and more — so that everyone can join grandma in the kitchen.

The visual language, along with the brand name and identity, is inspired by tradition and warmth, emphasizing customer trust through graphic elements such as hearts and lace patterns—reminiscent of the lace or embroidered pieces found at our beloved grandmother’s home. The story behind Bakin’ Mix products is built on the mutual trust between producer and consumer. The simplicity of preparing these pastries and breads allows us, even in today’s hectic lifestyle, to showcase our baking skills using certified, high-quality ingredients that guarantee absolute safety. Bake it, then tell grandma about it!
